'Tradition v Change? The Creed of Nicaea and the Development of Doctrine'.


Does faith change or does it stay the same ? In this year's Laishley lecture, on the 1700th anniversary of the first Ecumenical Council of Nicaea, Professor Karen Kilby, Bede Professor for Catholic Theology at the University of Durham and director of the Centre for Catholic Studies will explore the council, the creed and the question of development of doctrine.

About the 2025 Laishley Lecturer:

Karen Kilby is the Bede Professor of Catholic Theology at the University of Durham. She studied Mathematics and Theology at Yale and Cambridge, has published books on Karl Rahner and Hans Urs von Balthasar, and her recent book God, Evil and the Limits of Theology includes some of the most influential interventions in systematic theology of recent years (especially pieces on the doctrine of the Trinity, and the role of suffering in Christian theology).
